The corvette 'Al-Jubail', built in Navantia, begins its sea trials in the Bay of Cádiz

The corvette ‘Al-Jubail (C546)’, the first of the five that Navantia builds for the Royal Saudi Naval Forces (RSNF), has begun its sea trials in the waters of the Bay of Cádiz to check the correct operation of all its systems.

Navantia has explained that sea trials are carried out before delivery to the client to check the operation of both the platform and the different systems, in order to demonstrate compliance with the requirements specified in the vessel’s contract. .

The trial period is about two months, divided into two different periods. The current testing period will last about two weeks and about 140 people participate, about 40 engineers from different specialties.

The trials are staffed by Navantia, partner industry, Lloyds Register of Shipping and major equipment supplier companies. Likewise, the RSNF and members of the Spanish Navy participate on the client’s side.

Once this period is over, the corvette will prepare to complete the combat system installation process prior to delivery of the ship. Launched in July 2020, delivery to the end customer is expected to occur within five months.

The corvette ‘Al-Jubail’ has a length of 104 meters, a beam of 14 and will be able to transport a total of 102 people between crew and passengers. She will reach a top speed of 27 knots.
