Ensamblaje primera jacket para Saint Brieuc

Navantia has completed, at its Fene shipyard, the final assembly of the first jacket for the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm, which Iberdrola is building in French Brittany.

This construction milestone has occurred after the receipt of the first batch of components manufactured in the port of Brest. The components have been assembled to the main blocks manufactured in Fene by the UTE Navantia-Windar and its collaborating companies.

This maneuver has been carried out with a 1,600 ton crawler crane, due to the dimensions and weight of these jackets, more than 74 meters and 1,100 tonnes.

At the same time, 40 of the 62 jackets included in the contract with Iberdrola are already in different construction phases.

In the coming months and until the delivery of the last units, scheduled for the third quarter of 2022, this program will generate peaks of 1,000 jobs in the region, in addition to the workload carried out by Spanish companies in the port of Brest that has allowed create some 2,000 jobs in Brittany.

Saint-Brieuc, with an investment of 2.4 billion euros, is Iberdrola’s first offshore wind energy project in France. The park, with a total installed power of 496 megawatts (MW), and its production will allow the supply of clean energy to an equivalent population of 835,000 people; about 9% of the total electricity consumption of Brittany.

Saint-Brieuc has a high participation of Spanish companies in its construction: the jackets -platforms that support the offshore wind turbines- and the piles will be built and assembled by Navantia-Windar, in Fene (A Coruña) and Avilés (Asturias), respectively ; the wind turbines will be supplied by Siemens Gamesa and the Basque company Haizea Wind will carry out the assembly of the towers.
